With a victory against Mississippi State, the fourth-ranked Tigers will not only extend their unbeaten streak … not only capture a milestone win for Mid-Missouri’s first family of volleyball … not only stay on path to host postseason play … but will clinch Mizzou’s first Southeastern Conference championship in any sport. The Tigers followed a 15-0 stroll through nonconference play with six wins to begin SEC play. Then, against 20-time league champion Florida — the SEC’s volleyball equivalent to Kentucky men’s basketball – the Tigers swamped the Gators 3-1 Oct. 20 in Columbia and four weeks later became the first team to sweep Florida at home since 1991.Thirteen years and a conference change later, the Kreklows have the Tigers on the brink of making history. And they’ll be far from done tonight. Missouri will likely serve as a host site for the first two rounds of the 64-team NCAA Tournament Dec. 5-7.
For now, the streak continues.“It’s really unprecedented in many ways, certainly for volleyball,” Reesman said. “It doesn’t happen very often for any sport in any program, going undefeated. I’m knocking on wood as I say this, but being at this point is a very good feeling. There’s really not much like it.”
